Short answer: genuine scholarships do not ask you to pay to be selected. GETFund has said its scholarship registration is free and that no individual or organisation is authorised to collect money on its behalf. Treat any "processing fee", "registration fee" or "facilitation fee" for a scholarship as a scam.
How scholarship scams work
- Impostors pose as GETFund or embassy officials and promise to "help" with an award for a fee.
- Fake international scholarships ask for application, visa or "acceptance" fees.
- Fake forms are shared on social media to collect personal details.
How to apply safely
- Apply only through the scholarship body's official website.
- Never pay an individual to be selected.
- Do not send your ID, certificates or bank details to someone who contacted you first.
Asked to pay for a scholarship? Check the number, report it to the police and the Cyber Security Authority (292), and report it on TrustCheck. Study-abroad offers are covered in fake visa and travel agent scams.
