Short answer: SHS placement under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is merit-based, and the Ghana Education Service has repeatedly said no one should pay money for a school place. In September 2026 the Ministry of Education also warned that forged, digitally altered placement slips were circulating online. Check your placement only on the official CSSPS portal and report anyone who asks for money.
How placement scams work
- "Pay to change your school." Someone claims they can move your child to a better school for a fee.
- Forged placement slips. Edited slips shared on WhatsApp and Facebook. The Ministry said barcodes and QR codes on fake slips did not match the printed details.
- Fake "protocol" lists. Promises of special places reserved for people who pay.
- Fake selection notices shared on social media before or after results.
How to check your real placement
- Use only the official CSSPS portal and official GES or Ministry of Education channels.
- Compare any slip you are sent with what the portal shows. If they differ, trust the portal.
- Do not send index numbers, PINs or money to anyone who contacts you about placement.
Someone asked you to pay for placement?
Report them to the police, as GES advises, and to the Cyber Security Authority (call or text 292). Then report the number on TrustCheck so other parents are warned. You can check any number before you reply.
