Short answer: paste the number into TrustCheck's Check a number to see reports from other people in Ghana, then look at how the person is behaving. Pressure to pay quickly, requests for codes or PINs, and stories about money "sent by mistake" are red flags whatever the number.
Step 1: Look the number up
On TrustCheck you can check a phone or MoMo number, an Instagram or TikTok handle, or a website. You will see any published reports, what happened and how much people lost. A number with no reports is not proof it is safe, so keep going.
Step 2: Check the conversation
- Do they ask for a PIN, OTP or code? Stop.
- Do they want payment before you see the item? Prefer pay on delivery.
- Do they claim to be from your bank, MoMo provider or a government agency? Call the official number yourself.
- Does the MoMo name shown before you confirm match who they say they are?
Step 3: Report it
If the number scammed you or tried to, report it on TrustCheck so the next person sees the warning, and report to the Cyber Security Authority on 292. See how to report a scam in Ghana.
