Short answer: since 25 May 2026, visitors who need permission to enter Ghana apply online at evisa.immigration.gov.gh, run by the Ghana Immigration Service. Visa on arrival has been discontinued. A single-entry eVisa costs $260 (normal processing). Many African travellers need only a free ETA. Sites that charge extra "service fees" are not official.
Last checked: 22 October 2026. Fees can change, so confirm on the official portal before paying.
Who needs what?
- ECOWAS citizens: no visa needed for short visits.
- Other African Union citizens and some previously visa-free nationalities: a free Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), valid for 90 days, single entry.
- Everyone else, including US, UK, Canadian and European passport holders: an eVisa.
- Ghanaians abroad: if you travel on a Ghanaian passport, you do not need a visa. Foreign-passport holders with Ghanaian roots should check the dual citizenship and Right of Abode rules with the Ghana Immigration Service.
Ghana eVisa fees (single entry)
- Normal processing: $260
- 48-hour priority: $338
- 5-hour express: $442

Fake Ghana visa websites
Copycat sites appear in Google ads and look official. They charge two or three times the real fee, or just take your card details. Warning signs:
- The address does not end in .gov.gh.
- A "processing" or "service" fee on top of the government fee.
- A charge for the ETA, which is free on the official portal.
- Urgency like "visa on arrival no longer available, apply in 10 minutes".
