Short answer: Outlier is a real AI training platform run by Scale AI. Recent checks of Outlier's own list of eligible working locations, done in 2026, do not include Ghana (or Nigeria or Kenya). Availability can change and some projects have their own rules, so check Outlier's official eligibility page yourself. Do not use a VPN or someone else's account to get in.
What is Outlier?
Outlier pays contributors to write and check content that trains AI models, such as rating answers, writing prompts and reviewing reasoning. It is run by Scale AI, in which Meta bought a 49% stake for $14.3 billion in June 2025. Contributors are reported to be paid weekly through options such as PayPal, Airtm or bank transfer, depending on where they live.
Is Ghana on Outlier's list?
Outlier only accepts contributors in the countries on its working-location policy, about 110 to 117 countries according to recent reviews. Several 2026 guides that checked the policy say Ghana is not on it. One older article claimed Outlier was recruiting in Ghana, which conflicts with the newer checks. Treat the official policy page as the final word, and check it when you apply, because lists change.
Why not just use a VPN?
- Platforms check where you actually work. Accounts found working from unlisted countries are usually closed.
- When an account is closed, unpaid earnings may be lost.
- It can break the platform's terms and your contract.
Which Outlier scams target Ghanaians?
- "Outlier accounts" for sale or rent. Someone offers a verified account from an eligible country in exchange for a fee or a share of your pay. You have no control over the account or the money.
- Recruiters on WhatsApp and Telegram who charge to "register" you. Outlier does not charge to join.
- Fake Outlier websites that collect your ID and payment details.

What can you do instead?
Some platforms do list Ghana, Mercor among them. Compare them in AI training platforms that accept Ghana.
