Short answer: an investment app in Ghana is only as safe as the firm behind it. That firm must be licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Ghana, and since 31 August 2026 the SEC also requires each investment app to be approved. Achieve (Petra Securities), IC Wealth (IC Asset Managers), Databank and Stanbic Investments (SIMS) are all run by firms on the SEC's licensed register. You can check any firm on TrustCheck in seconds.
Investment apps run by SEC-licensed firms
- Achieve by Petra: run by Petra Securities, licensed by the SEC as a broker-dealer. Used for goal-based saving and investing in funds. Reviews of Achieve.
- IC Wealth: run by IC Asset Managers, licensed by the SEC as a fund manager, and available inside the MTN MoMo app since 2026. Reviews of IC Wealth.
- Databank: Databank Asset Management Services, licensed by the SEC as a fund manager, runs mutual funds such as Epack, MFund and Ark Fund. Reviews of Databank.
- Stanbic Investments (SIMS): Stanbic Investment Management Services, licensed by the SEC as a fund manager, with the SIMS app for tracking and topping up. Reviews of SIMS.
A licence means the firm is supervised. It does not mean your returns are guaranteed: funds that invest in bonds and shares can go up and down.
Is Achieve by Petra legit?
Yes: Achieve is run by Petra Securities, which is on the SEC's register of licensed market operators. Check that the app you download is published by Petra, and only deposit through the app's own payment screen, never to a personal MoMo number someone sends you.
Is IC Wealth legit?
Yes: IC Wealth is run by IC Asset Managers (Ghana), an SEC-licensed fund manager that is part of the IC Group. You can also reach IC Wealth inside the official MTN MoMo app. Be careful of WhatsApp or Telegram "IC Wealth agents" offering special returns: genuine investments go through the app.
How to check any investment app yourself
- Find the company behind the app. Look at the app store listing ("developer" or "offered by") and the app's terms.
- Search that company on TrustCheck's licence check, which covers the SEC, Bank of Ghana, NIC and Gaming Commission registers with links to each official source.
- Check the SEC's warnings. In July 2026 the SEC named 23 online platforms operating without a licence, including Bonchat, Yepbit, Mazzuma and Harvest Fund.
- Read reviews from other Ghanaians on TrustCheck before you deposit.
Warning signs of a fake investment app
- Fixed, high returns ("5% a week", "double your money").
- Rewards for recruiting friends, or tasks you must "unlock".
- Deposits to personal MoMo numbers or crypto wallets.
- Withdrawals that need a "tax" or "unlock fee" first.
- No company name you can find on the SEC register.

Apps that are not on the SEC register
Some popular money apps are not licensed by the SEC Ghana, often because they are regulated in another country or are not investment firms at all. When we checked in October 2026, Accrue, a US-registered savings and payments app, was not on the SEC Ghana register. That is not proof of wrongdoing, but it does mean Ghana's SEC does not supervise it.
