How to Check or Contest a TraffiTech-GH Notice: Wrong Car, Sold Car or Someone Else Driving

How to Check or Contest a TraffiTech-GH Notice: Wrong Car, Sold Car or Someone Else Driving

Short answer: open www.ghana.gov.gh (type it yourself), enter the ticket number and look at the photo or video evidence. If you disagree, contest it online within 14 days of the notice, choose an MTTD regional police station and a hearing date, and go with your ticket reference and a valid ID. Do not pay if you are contesting: payment settles the case. For a wrong vehicle, call the TraffiTech-GH call centre on 059 692 2402.

Step 1: look at the evidence

  1. Check the text came from GPS-MTTD. If not, it may be fake: see how to spot a fake TraffiTech-GH text.
  2. Type www.ghana.gov.gh into your browser and check the address is exactly that.
  3. Enter the ticket number and choose to view the photo or video evidence and the other details.
  4. Check the vehicle number, the place, the date and time, and the speed.

Step 2: contest it, if it is wrong

  • Deadline: within 14 days of the date the notice was issued.
  • Where: online. You cannot start a contest at a police (GPS-MTTD) office or at the courts.
  • Hearing: pick an MTTD regional police station and a date. The MTTD confirms by text message.
  • Bring: your notice reference number and a valid ID.
  • Remember: paying the fine counts as settling it, so do not pay a notice you are contesting.

On speed, the police say the devices are type-approved and checked (calibrated) by the Ghana Standards Authority, so bring something specific if you dispute the reading.

Common situations

  • It is not your vehicle (wrong number plate, cloned plate): call the TraffiTech-GH call centre on 059 692 2402 or email [email protected] straight away. False reports can attract penalties.
  • You sold the vehicle: the registered owner stays liable, late penalty included, until the DVLA records change. The seller should make sure the transfer is registered with the DVLA.
  • The vehicle was stolen: report the theft to the police immediately.
  • Someone else was driving: the registered owner is still the one liable for the notice.

Keep your number up to date

Notices go to the phone number on the DVLA record for the vehicle. If you changed your number, update it with the DVLA so you do not miss a notice and its 14-day deadline. Dial *220# to check whether a vehicle has outstanding fines.

Last checked: 1 November 2026, the day TraffiTech-GH went live. Rules and amounts can change: the Ghana Police Service TraffiTech-GH page (police.gov.gh) and your own notice are the final word.
