Short answer: Temu itself is a real online marketplace owned by PDD Holdings, the company behind Pinduoduo. Most problems Ghanaian buyers report are not with Temu's own app but with fake "Temu agents" on WhatsApp and Facebook, slow delivery and items that look different from the photos. Order only through the official Temu app or temu.com, and never pay a "Temu agent" by Mobile Money.
What are the real risks?
- Fake agents and clone pages. People pose as Temu staff or "Temu Ghana offices", take MoMo payments and disappear. Temu's official checkout does not ask you to send MoMo to a personal number.
- Quality and sizing. Prices are low because many items are basic. Read the product reviews and check measurements.
- Delivery and customs. Delivery times and any customs charges depend on what Temu offers for Ghana when you order. Check the delivery terms on the checkout page itself, not on social media.
- Too-good giveaways. "Free gift" links shared on WhatsApp are often phishing pages. Open the app directly instead.
How do you order from Temu safely?
- Download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, or type temu.com yourself.
- Pay only on the official checkout page. Use a card with spending limits if you can.
- Screenshot your order and delivery terms.
- If someone offers to "order for you" or "clear your parcel", check their number on TrustCheck's number checker first.
What if a "Temu agent" scammed you?
Call your MoMo provider immediately, report to the Cyber Security Authority on 292, and report the number on TrustCheck so others are warned. Read more about what to do after Mobile Money fraud.
