Is this MoMo message real?

Got a "payment received" text, a "sent by mistake" call or a prize message? Paste it here to see the warning signs before you send anything back.

Where did it come from?

We do not save what you paste.

The only real proof: your balance

Sender names can be faked and fake alerts copy the real wording. Before you send anything, open your own MoMo menu or app and check your balance and recent transactions.

  • If the money is not in your balance, the message is fake. Delete it and block the number.
  • If someone says they sent money by mistake, never send it back yourself. The network reverses real mistakes.
  • Never share your MoMo PIN or a code sent to your phone, with anyone.

How the "sent by mistake" scam works, and real reversals

Questions people ask

How can I tell if a MoMo payment alert is real?

Check your own MoMo balance and transaction history through your network's menu or app. If the money is not there, the message is fake, whatever it says and whoever it seems to come from.

Someone says they sent me money by mistake. What should I do?

Do not send anything back yourself. Check your balance. If the money really arrived, tell them to ask their network to reverse it: the network does real reversals, never you.

The message came from "MobileMoney" or "MTN". Is it safe?

Not on its own. Scammers can fake the sender name an SMS shows. Your balance is the only proof.

Do you save the message I paste?

No. TrustCheck reads it to find warning signs and does not save or log it.
